Our Assessments

We offer a range of diagnostic and screening assessments to identify dyslexic traits or diagnose dyslexia in both children and adults. As teachers with wide school experience of access arrangements, we are well placed to liaise with schools and can provide recommendations for accommodations for the Kent Test, Common Entrance, A Level, GCSE and BTEC examinations. All our assessors are fully qualified and hold an Assessment Practising Certificate, and our diagnostic reports are written according to SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC) guidelines. If diagnosed, university students can use our reports to access the Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) and adults in the workplace can use our recommendations to request reasonable adjustments from their employer to accommodate any difficulties they are having as a result of their dyslexia.

Full Diagnostic
Assessment

This assessment is needed for a formal diagnosis of dyslexia. We are happy to assess children and adults from age 8 upwards. The assessment takes about 3 hours, but this can take place over two sittings. Within two weeks, you will receive a detailed report explaining the assessment results, making key recommendations for support, and making a diagnosis if appropriate. A diagnosis can be used to support an application for the Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) at university or to support a request for accommodations in the work place. All reports follow guidelines set out by SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC).

Access Arrangements

At GCSE and A Level, pupils with learning difficulties must be assessed for access arrangements unless they have a medical condition requiring accommodations. This assessment is often done by the school, but can be done privately with prior school agreement. We are happy to liaise with schools and assess for access arrangements from Year 9. We can also provide assessment reports that can be used to support applications for extra time or other accommodations in the Kent Test and in Common Entrance exams for independent senior schools. This assessment usually takes about 1-1.5 hours to complete, but can be done over two sittings. Results are available within a week.

If you are a school in need of extra help assessing your pupils for access arrangements, we are happy to discuss how we could support you in this. Please see our Assessments For Schools page for more information.

Learning Profile Assessment

If you are worried about any aspect of your child's learning, or simply want to see where their strengths and weaknesses lie, we can offer an online learning profile assessment which looks at their underlying ability and their attainment in reading, writing and spelling. You will receive a short report within a week, detailing and briefly explaining their scores, together with key recommendations on how weaker areas might be developed and supported. If you then decide that a full diagnostic assessment would be helpful, the cost of this shorter assessment can be subtracted from the cost of the more detailed assessment.

Dyslexia Screening
Test

If you feel that your child may be showing signs of dyslexia, you may prefer to have them screened rather than rushing into the expense of a full assessment. A screening test can be done online from age 5-16 years and comprises six digital tests which identify whether a pupil would benefit from further diagnostic assessment. Parents receive a computer-generated report suggesting interventions that may be helpful. The test takes about an hour but can be done in more than one sitting if necessary. Results are available within 24 hours.
